I was now successfully able to run my query in the same time frame on Oozie as I did in Beeswax.
Solution
In Hue website under Beeswax is a “Settings” tab. In this tab is a whole lot of properties. It appears that these are the properties Beeswax runs with and in some cases there are alot of properties in this list that are different to what is stored on the config files in Hive etc. Oozie does not share this list of properties. I went through a manual process of adding all these properties to my job config in my hive oozie step until my query performed the same.
Going forward it is probably best to ensure Beeswax properties in the settings tab matches Ozzie properties for you Hive step to ensure you get the same performance.
