Also to address your earlier question, HDFS does not perform auto-tiering. We decided to let administrators manage storage policies. You don’t have to manage blocks. e.g. some customers use a daemon that periodically scans the filesystem and updates storage policies on files based on their last accessed times to move them from DISK to ARCHIVAL or SSD to DISK. I have noted your request for auto-tiering and we will evaluate whether it is practical to add in a future release.
