Hello Vamshi,
From shell normally it’s best that you run hive shell with root or the user that’s the owner of the process, in this case hive. You also have to add in the “-” to the su command always in sandbox to load all the env. variables.
Also, are you trying to run su – hdfs as root or as admin? You should be able to su – any user from root.
