You can use Apache Ranger (previously Apache Argus) for authorization. Using Apache Ranger you can provide granular permission to groups for certain folders/files. Apache Ranger also supports wild cards, so if you have folders or files with patterns, e.g. US_xyz, you can create policies like US_* and give Read and/or Write permission to selective groups and/or users.

Kerberos is the authentication part and it is the primer for any authorization. Without reliable authentication, users can easily impersonate anyone else. So you have to make sure that you Hadoop is Kerberos enable.

Knox is the REST API gateway and it can be used for WebHDFS, JDBC and ODBC. So if you are connecting to HiveServer2 via JDBC, then it should work for you.
