WebHCat Manual Install documentation is wrong/incomplete

I attempted to follow the documentation for HDP 2.1.7 for configuring webhcat. The documentation is, at best, incomplete. I had the following problems:
1. permissions on /apps/hive/warehouse need to be set to 777 to allow other users to create databases via webhcat
2. webhcat seems to use the default java; there was no documented way to provide it with JAVA_HOME. I had to rearrange soft links to get it to use the correct version of java.
3. it seemed that I needed to define PYTHON_CMD environment variable in webhcat-env.sh; if that is not the case, then there is an error message issue: I was seeing 401 Unauthorized error returns. The body of the http response complained about env PYTHON_CMD being undefined.
4. The install of hive-hcatalog and webhcat did not create the hcat user. I had to do that manually and make it a member of the hadoop group
5. The folders for configuration have different names than what is in the documentation.
6. The command to invoke webhcat uses a –config flag. I believe the flag is not needed; and the file it references does not exist.
7. There are no instructions on installing webhcat without zookeeper. The webhcat-site.xml provided in the helper scripts/config files has it set to use zookeeper. You need to change templeton.storage.class to be HDFSStorage.
